The Clinical Lab Assistant demonstrates technical skills in the pre-analytical phase of the testing process. Follows age-specific care guidelines in collecting specimens from the various age categories of infants, children, adolescents, adults,s and the elderly. Collects specimens using the proper procedures & protocols. Observes principles of phlebotomy. Answers the phone readily and in a friendly, welcoming manner.
Receives and distributes specimens according to the highest priority (i.e. ED, STAT, and Routine). Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance on label printers. Loads specimens on instruments as appropriate.
Demonstrates advanced skills in the analytical phase of the testing process. Including and not limited to Accurately performing waived testing as directed by the MT/MLT. Follows testing protocols. Performs test procedures with care and accuracy. Ensures that outdated materials (kits, QC, or reagents) are not used; uses oldest outdated first. Ensures timeliness of testing by organizing work for minimal turnaround time, performing work in a careful manner to minimize repeat testing and turnaround time, referring testing to alternate sites if in-place systems are not operable.
High School Diploma Required, Bachelor’s or Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science preferred. At least 3 months experience working in a clinical laboratory preferred
